Simon and Kerry in da house!

where areeeee theeeeeey

si and kerry!

There they are!

Simon and Kerry came to the netherlands!
They are on a cruise and Rotterdam was their forst port of call.
As Amsterdam is much more fun we whisked them off as soon as they arrived and drove to amsterdam and showed them around a bit.
We had a great day catching up as we hadn't seen them since their wedding and we think they liked Amsterdam. We ticked all the boxes: windmills, clogs, tulips and lesbians.

The Dark Tower: Wizard and Glass - Stephen King

This is the 4th book in a series of seven books from Stephen King. I have a boxed set with the first four books, so this is the last book I have at the moment in this series.

I find Stephen King to be a difficult writer to judge. Sometimes you read one of his books or see a film based on his books and it is just awful, sometimes you just can't put it down. This feeling runs through the Dark Tower series and I have found that even from chapter to chapter he can write amazingly well and criminally bad. However, for the most part, this book has been the good stuff!

The story picks up with Roland of Gilead and tells more of his back story. This book has been good fun so far, I am definately going to read the other 3 books to see how the story ends and I want desparately to know what happens when Roland reaches the tower!

Huisjes te kijken

Tomorrow we are spending the morning and early afternoon in Alphen Aan Den Rijn, looking for future places to live. We have four houses to go and see and we will probably be taking plenty of pics and posting them on flickr, so check out our pictures soon!

I don't know how many houses is normal to see before deciding, but hopefully it won't be too long until we find "the one" :-D

Holiday!

We have a holiay coming up! I don't get many days off on holiday in a year but we have decided that we wanted a holiday in the sun this winter. We have both been working really hard recently, both at work and looking for wedding venues and houses, so we are going to go to Rhodes for a week in September/October. We have booked the hotel/flights and the time off work, so all we have to do now is wait for it to come! OH YEAH!

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy

We went and saw The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy at the weekend and we both found it really funny. It has one of the people from the Office in it (which we thought was utter shite) but he is great as Arthur Dent. Alan Rickman is the voice of Marvin the Android and fits the role perfectly. We both really enjoyed the film and we had some dinner before we saw it, so we had a good evening out for a change!

So Busy...

We are sssooo busy at the moment, we hardly seem to have anytime to just stop and do nothing, but this weekend it will be good, as we have nothing planned and we are going to do just that :)

Yesterday I had to go to Interpay again for a progress report which went well, although I now have even more hardware to play with, I have at least three different card readers now and I have to make them all work with the software so that should be fun *insert sarcastic tone here*. I had a meeting this morning with a colleague who had another appointment so I was at work for 7:30 today, we got up at 6 and I am knackered already! Miki went to work early too, so we will both finish earlier today.

I've finished reading The Waste Lands by Stephen King and started reading Wizard and Glass, I've only read a few chapters so I will post about it separately later on.

Happy Birthday!!!

It was Miki's birthday yesterday, I tried to post but my connection at work is pants at the moment, so it is!

It wasn't such a great start to the week, I managed to skip the monthly meeting at work to be with Miki on her birthday, but then I got a flat tyre on my bike and had to walk it home. Miki had a hectic day going to the garage to have the car fixed, going for a checkup for her lungs at the hospital and getting groceries.

Hopefully the rest of the week will run a little more harmoniously...

Miki is now the proud owner of two Calvin and Hobbs books from mum and there are some Dilbert DVDs to be watched as well :)

Happy Birthday!!!!

Acda en de Munnik

Recently I have been listening to some new music which I have scavenged off of a colleague, but I have also been listening to some Dutch music. My favourite music at the moment is from Acda en de Munnik who are a Dutch duo. My favourite tracks are "Als Het Vuur Gedoofd Is" and "Drie Keer Vallen". One of them plays guitar and the other plays the piano and their voices are really good together. It also helps with the Dutch!

Hardware

I have been working on some simulators for a company called Interpay for a while now and I have a ton of hardware on my desk at work! I took a picture and added notes to it on Flickr:

I have just overcome some C++/Delphi/Borland C++ Builder nastiness and I am feeling quite happy with myself, but time still seems to be flying by!
